Pro4mance Roofing & Home Improvements installs replacement windows from our office at 333 N Main St, Suite D, in downtown London, Kentucky. We replace drafty, foggy, and stuck windows with energy-efficient units, flash and seal every opening so water stays out of the wall, and wrap the outside trim in aluminum so it never needs paint. We also replace windows broken or dented by hail and falling limbs. Windows are one part of the exterior work we do, so they can be planned with new siding, gutters, and a roof. We work in London, Corbin, and all of Laurel County, plus nearby Whitley County. Every project starts with a free estimate where we measure each opening and check the frames and sills. Call (606) 401-9922.
Which window style is right for each room?
Double-hung windows suit most rooms in a Kentucky home. Casements seal tightest and work well over a sink or counter, sliders fit wide, short openings, and picture windows give the most glass where you don't need airflow.
Most homeowners keep the same style the house was built with, but a replacement is a good time to rethink a window that has always been hard to open or clean.
| Style | How it opens | Good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Double-hung | Both sashes slide up and down; most tilt in to clean | Bedrooms, living rooms, upper floors |
| Slider | Sash glides side to side | Wide, short openings and basements |
| Casement | Cranks outward on a hinge | Over sinks and counters; catches breezes |
| Picture | Doesn't open | Views, stairwells, paired with operating windows |
Do energy-efficient windows make a difference?
They make the biggest difference when they replace single-pane windows or double-pane units that have failed. Swapping one decent window for a slightly better one changes much less.
Compare windows by the label, not the brochure. A lower U-factor means the window holds heat in better, which matters most in Kentucky winters. A lower solar heat gain coefficient blocks more summer sun, which helps on west- and south-facing walls. Low-E coatings and gas-filled double panes improve both numbers. Look at air leakage too: a window that seals tightly keeps out drafts and the damp, sticky air of a Laurel County summer.
A good window still leaks if it's installed badly, which is why the installation section below matters as much as the glass.
How do I know I need new windows?
You need new windows when they let in air or water, won't open and close properly, or have glass that fogs between the panes. Age alone isn't the reason; how the window is working is.
- Fog or moisture trapped between the panes, which means the seal has failed
- Drafts you can feel around the sash on a cold, windy day
- Sashes that stick, won't stay up, or won't lock
- Soft, rotted, or peeling wood on the sill or frame
- Heavy condensation or frost on the inside of the glass in winter
- Water stains on the wall or floor below a window
- Single-pane glass, or rooms that are always hotter or colder than the rest of the house
Freeze-and-thaw cycles are hard on old wood windows. Water gets into a crack in the paint, freezes, and opens the crack wider, and before long the sill is soft. If we find a window that only needs new glass or a little repair, we'll tell you.
Insert or full-frame: how should my windows be installed?
An insert window fits inside the existing frame when that frame is solid and square. A full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening, which is the right call when the sill or frame is rotted.
Inserts go in faster and leave your interior trim alone. Full-frame work lets us see and fix the wood around the opening, flash it properly, and insulate the gaps, and the easiest time to do it is while the siding is off. Either way, each window is set level, shimmed, insulated, and sealed, with flashing that sheds water out and away from the wall instead of into it. On hillside homes, the downhill wall often takes the most wind-driven rain, so we pay close attention to those openings.
What is trim capping, and what about hail-damaged windows?
Trim capping is aluminum bent on site to wrap the wood trim around the outside of a window, so the wood is protected from weather and never needs paint again.
It is usually done when the windows go in and is color-matched to your siding or gutters. Hail can dent that capping, tear screens, and crack glass or vinyl frames. If a storm caused the damage, you file the claim; we inspect the windows with the siding, gutters, and roof, document the damage with dated photos and measurements, write the estimate, and can meet your adjuster. Kentucky law does not allow a contractor to negotiate your claim or to pay, waive, or rebate your deductible, and we do neither. What affects the cost of replacement windows in Laurel County?
The cost of replacement windows in Laurel County depends on the windows and on the openings they go into. The main factors are how many windows are being replaced, their sizes and styles, the glass package such as Low-E coatings and gas-filled panes, the frame material, whether each window can go in as an insert or needs a full-frame replacement because the old frame or sill is rotted, whether exterior trim is wrapped in aluminum capping, and how hard upper-story windows are to reach. Pro4mance measures every opening during a free estimate and gives a written price instead of a guess over the phone.
Does insurance cover hail-damaged windows in London, KY?
Many homeowner policies cover windows, screens, and aluminum trim damaged by a covered hail or wind storm, subject to the deductible and the terms of the policy. The homeowner files the claim with the insurance company. Pro4mance inspects the windows along with the siding, gutters, and roof, documents the damage with dated photos and measurements, writes an estimate, and can attend the adjuster's inspection. Kentucky law does not allow a contractor to negotiate the claim for the homeowner or to pay, waive, or rebate the deductible, and Pro4mance does neither.
